Movie Review: Chak De India

Another precious gem in King Khan’s crown

Chak De India is a superb movie with tight script and gripping screenplay, it has all the ingredients of a commercial film along with just right dose of patriotism. Director Shimit Amin wonderfully weaves different threads of human behaviors into a tight script with an entertaining storyline.

The story opens with the final match of Men’s world cup between India and Pakistan. Indian team is led by Kabir Khan (played by SRK) in which India loses for which Kabir Khan is blamed and is labeled as a ‘Gaddar’ (traitor). Dejected Kabir goes into oblivion only to return after 7 and half years as coach for Indian Women’s Hockey team. The story gets faster as Kabir constitutes the Indian Women’s team with 16 of finest players across the country and faces problems getting them to play together.

Chak De India
Shimit Amin deals with varied traits like ego tussles, senior-junior classification, veteran- novice difference and even male chauvinism with expertise and weaves all these different traits into a tight script supported by wonderful background score.

If the charm of SRK pulled the crowds into the hall, his performance keeps them in. The king minus all his shahrukhisms of shivering lips, trembling eyebrows give a real treat to watch the star performer perform. The rest of the cast have given wonderful and apt performances which are definitely not overshadowed by the huge star.

Chitrashi Rawat as Komal Chautala, Shilpa Shukla as Bindia Naik, Tanya Abrol as Balbir Kaur, and Sagarika Ghatge as Preeti Sabarwal, are the lifeline of the film. Vidya Malavade as Vidya Sharma has also sketched her role beautifully.

All in all wonderful script, excellent direction along with extra-ordinary background music and mind-blowing cinematography with patriotism as an under current supported by power-packed performances makes it a real treat to watch.
